How electricians should price a job

Estimate the labor hours, multiply by what an hour of labor costs you (wage plus payroll taxes and workers comp), add materials and permit, then divide by (1 − your margin). A flat hourly rate rarely covers drive time, estimates and callbacks.

Voltage drop rule of thumb

Keep branch-circuit voltage drop around 3% or less. For long runs, step up the wire size and re-check.

FAQ

How much do electricians charge per hour?

It varies widely by region and license level. Work from your own costs and margin rather than a market average.

Should I charge a service call fee?

Most electricians do, so that small jobs still cover the drive and diagnosis time.
