How to estimate a paint job

Wall area = perimeter × height, minus about 21 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window. One gallon covers roughly 350 sq ft per coat. Labor is the area times coats divided by how many square feet one painter rolls in an hour, plus setup and cleanup.

Price from margin, not markup

This calculator divides your cost by (1 − margin) so overhead and profit are protected. Ceilings, trim, doors, prep level, exteriors and a client-ready quote are in the full system.

FAQ

How many gallons of paint for a 12x12 room?

About 2 gallons for two coats on 8-ft walls, before ceilings and trim.

How much do painters charge per square foot?

It varies widely by region and prep; price from your own labor cost and production rate instead of a market average.
